Hark and come hither. Soften ye orbs by the fire and join my good friend and fellow infinite player John Anthony and meself whilst we share a whisky and talk shop (sans AI slop).

Keeping the abacus gelatinous

I don’t know about you, but when I listen to podcasts I am mostly interested in emergent thinking. I don’t particularly want to hear an expert auto-dispense pithy soundbites with smooth podcast voice and manufactured authenticity. I want the thinking-in-draft. I want to sense into what they’re paying attention to. What unresolved questions and tensions are alive in them. How are they orienting, who they are reading, and what they are listening to. What they are unsure of, and how they are going about figuring their way through.

And the great thing about podcasts is that they are infused with what Nora Bateson might call warm data.

The pauses, the tonality, the hesitations, the humour, the preamble, prehensions, and perambulations—all of this is richness that can’t be adequately captured and distilled by artificial intelligence. You need only the authentic intelligence you already have within you.

Such podcasts provide a sense of context, subtlety, and lived nuance. If you’ve your wits about you, you’ll know when someone is circling a thought not out of confusion, but care. You’ll be able to recognise when something said less as a conclusion and more as a doorway. This isn’t about consuming neatly packaged hot-takes, but rather being a companion to someone in the midst of figuring. It’s a kind of cognitive intimacy that invites your own sensemaking to stir and rise with it. A good podcast episode doesn’t just inform; it entangles.

Rogues know each other

And this is exactly what John Anthony (JA; bard, shapeshifter and pretend sage) and myself had in mind when we recorded this podcast for you. We wanted you to be there with us as we hang out, share a dram, and enjoy an emergent conversation as talk shop and share what’s on our minds. As fellow infinite player.

JA and I both perform an odd role in the work we do. Some sort of attuned combination of wizardly bardic trickster jester wise fool magics. There’s sense amidst the nonsense, if you know what to listen for.

This begins as a little popup podcast folded into the foxwizard podcast proper. Once we get a few more of these happening we might release it as its own thing—let’s see what happens. In the meantime, if you want to join us as we share a dram, the whisky we sample is the Mizunara Wood Reserve by Ichiro’s Malt. 🥃

And now I shall summon a shoggoth to tell you about the show.

Summary: In this engaging conversation, John Anthony and Jason Fox explore the nuances of connection, authenticity, and the art of conversation. They delve into the significance of personality constructs, the role of whisky in mindfulness, and the importance of being present in social interactions. The discussion also touches on the challenges of navigating social media, the power of storytelling, and the essence of kindred spirits. Through humour and reflective insights, they emphasise the value of emergence and the beauty of shared experiences.

[Bah! Yawn, that was the most boring summary ever. See? The AI don’t get it. You will.]

Enjoy the show!

I’m normally an audio guy but this time the video is best, if you can manage it. If you like it, find John Anthony on LinkedIn and Instagram and tell him you can’t wait to be able to subscribe to his newsletter. 😉

And in case you missed it in my last email, this episode of Michael Bungay Stanier’s Change Signal podcast does apt tribute to the wily fox magic I espouse. If you also approach strategy and change with an acuity for emergence—listen, and feel affirmed.

Thank you so much for reading. Remember, you are most welcome—encouraged, even—to drop me a quick note at fox@foxwizard.com 🧡

Much warmth,
